Ahura Scientific Names Bruce Ryan To Board

Ahura Scientific Inc., a developer of handheld optical technology to identify chemicals, has named Bruce Ryan to its board of directors.

Ryan has served in management positions in several IT companies, including Global Knowledge Network Inc., where he worked as executive vice president, and Amdahl Corp., where he held the same position. He also currently serves on the boards of publicly traded companies including enterprise software company Iona Technologies Inc., satellite communications company KHV Industries Inc. and human resource software company Kronos Inc.

Ahura said Ryan will serve as chairman of the company's audit committee.

Based in Wilmington, Mass., Ahura currently serves the medical, life sciences, domestic security and industrial markets with its handheld optical technology for identifying liquid and chemical substances. The company has raised $29.5 million since its 2002 founding, according to VentureWire records, most recently taking a $7 million Series B tranche in March from Arch Venture Partners, Castile Ventures, ComVentures and GF Private Equity Group.
