Ahura wins $2.6M WMD team orders

A Wilmington maker of handheld chemical detection systems has landed a $2.6 million deal with the U.S. National Guard.

The National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams has ordered 65 of Ahura Scientific Inc.'s First Defender instruments and fiber-optic extension probes, according to the company.

Company executives report each of the 55 WMD teams would receive one instrument, with the remaining 10 units deployed to the U.S. Army Chemical School for training, and to the Consequence Management Support Center.

Early this year, Ahura closed a $7 million extension to a $12 million round of Series B venture funding, bringing its total funding to $29.5 million. Privately owned Ahura is based in Wilmington, and employs 84 people.
