Ahura Scientific’s FirstDefender Now Available through 2008 CEDAP
FirstDefender Deployed by First Responders and Military Organizations Worldwide for Rapid Identification of Unknown Chemicals in the Field
WILMINGTON, Mass. —June 2, 2008 — Ahura Scientific, Inc., a leader in rugged, ultra-compact handheld instruments for chemical identification, announced today that it has been selected for the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Commercial Equipment Direct Assistant Program (CEDAP) for the second year in a row. Designed to complement other DHS grant programs, CEDAP enables acquisition of critical terrorism response equipment by smaller jurisdictions nationwide. Applications for CEDAP awards will be accepted through June 30, 2008 via the Responder Knowledge Base website (www.rkb.us).
Eligible state, local and regional fire and police departments, hazmat teams and other organizations interested in augmenting their homeland security response capabilities can apply for 2008 CEDAP awards. FirstDefender®, Ahura Scientific’s flagship Raman instrument, is included within the chemical, biological and radiation detection category and is the only instrument offered for identification of solid and liquid chemicals. Deployed by state, local and federal government agencies as well as civilian and military organizations worldwide, FirstDefender enables fast, accurate identification of unknown substances including chemical warfare agents, explosives and narcotics as well as precursors to these compounds.
CEDAP is an important component of the Homeland Security Administration’s larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness, providing specialized commercial equipment and related training directly to smaller jurisdictions and eligible metropolitan areas.
“We’re pleased to be a part of CEDAP for the second consecutive year,” said Doug Kahn, chairman and CEO of Ahura Scientific, Inc. “The war on terrorism is a battle our military, police, fire fighters and hazmat teams encounter on a daily basis. We’re honored to have this opportunity to make our chemical identification instruments available to such an important group, ensuring their access to the best possible equipment for protecting their communities and the nation.”
