Thermo Fisher Scientific Enhances FirstDefender RM and FirstDefender RMX with Full Language Configurations for Arabic, Chinese, French, German and Japanese

FirstDefender RM/RMX Software v3.4 Library Now Includes More Than 11,000 Chemicals to Help Customers Quickly and Accurately Identify Unknown Substances

WILMINGTON, Mass. — May 9, 2011 — Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced Thermo Scientific FirstDefender RM/RMX software version 3.4 with expanded language capabilities for Arabic, Chinese, French, German and Japanese. The update also significantly increases the number of substances in the instrument’s chemical library to more than 11,000, ensuring that first responders have the tools they need to immediately analyze an unknown substance and respond accordingly. This announcement reinforces the company’s commitment to its expanding global customer base and greatly enhances its ability to meet the evolving needs of these critical markets.

FirstDefender® RM and FirstDefender RMX enable rapid, accurate identification of unknown chemicals in the field and, along with other Thermo Scientific handheld instruments, are deployed worldwide for chemical and explosives identification by U.S. and foreign military organizations as well as national and regional law enforcement agencies and hazmat teams. The FirstDefender RM/RMX software v3.4 library represents the company’s largest Raman library to date, offering millions of mixture possibilities and additions to all chemical categories.
